Welcome to the Knowledge Worker Age

2008/02/06

Cape Town, 2 June 2008 - The Knowledge Worker Age needs great leaders who engage with people’s heads and hearts, not just their hands; most leaders however, still use Industrial Age management practices.

“The reality is, there is very little evidence of role modelling of what it looks like to lead in the Knowledge Worker Age,” MD of FranklinCovey Southern Africa, one of the largest leadership training organisations in the world, Adele Hall says.

“To lead effectively, one needs a new tool set, skill set and a new mind-set,” according to Hall. A radically new paradigm is required to lead people to greatness.

The Whole Person Paradigm is the new mind-set required; “seeing people as four dimensional individuals, recognising body, mind, heart and spirit is the driving paradigm on which great leadership is built”.

Dr Stephen R Covey, the world-renowned author and leadership guru, who visited South Africa on behalf of FranklinCovey Southern Africa and Life College, joined delegates in Cape Town to unpack this leadership challenge.

The 4 Imperatives of Leadership Greatness; how to inspire trust, clarify purpose, align systems and unleash talent, were developed by Dr Covey and other leadership gurus including the likes of Ram Charan, Jack Welch, Fred Reichheld, Clayton Christensen and Dr Covey’s son, Stephen M.R. Covey.

Dr Covey is the co-founder of the FranklinCovey Organisation, which operates in 147 countries around the world. Voted one of Time Magazine’s 25 most influential people in America, his fully facilitated workshop empowers leaders to develop a foundation of practical skills, useful tools and proven principals to enable them to take on larger roles and responsibilities within their organisations.

FranklinCovey Southern Africa operates in 17 African countries and Indian Ocean Islands. Since 1993, they have operated as the exclusive representative of FranklinCovey in Southern and East Africa. Throughout these regions, they have partnered with many organisations in both the private and public sectors to provide world-class leadership development and execution programmes and consulting services. FranklinCovey Southern Africa contributes to ongoing research in the fields of leadership development, productivity and execution.

Life College, who partnered with FranklinCovey Southern Africa, in bringing Dr Covey to South Africa and to Cape Town, is a replicable social business, which offers character education and leadership skills to children, young adults, their families, communities and corporates.

Life College strives to produce youth who are self-starters, responsible, disciplined champions of their own lives, have a success mentality and are independent thinkers. To keep the students motivated, the college has a mentorship programme, known as the Life Champion Leadership Programme, with some of the world’s most successful people, including the likes of Dr Covey, Richard Branson, Annie Lennox, Tim Modise, Natalie Du Toit and 50 others.

The College, which was founded 10-years ago by businessman and E TV Prime Time News Anchor, Pat Pillai, recently announced the roll-out of its services in Cape Town.
